Bob Jourdain

Tribal Affiliation: Couchiching First Nation

Biography: From Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nations in Canada, I am Lynx Clan and am now in my twenty-first year of employment at Leech Lake Tribal College where I am the Ojibwe Language teacher. I started as an English teacher, hired by Larry Aitkin and Jaime Robertson as an adjunct instructor, so I’ve never had to apply for work. Then in the fall of 1998, they informed me that I was now a full-time instructor.

In my time here at the Tribal College, I have taught many courses: English 101, English 102, English 250, Ani 100, and my favorite, English 096, a remedial type of class where students read and learn composition. In addition to this, it has been my privilege to coach the Knowledge Bowl team for many years, so winning that event is on my bucket list. The closest we’ve come to winning is second place. Each year the Tribal College finances our trips to the AIHEC student conferences. Recently, Elaine Fleming has joined me in being the other coach.
